As
my year comes to an end, I would like to take this time to thank ASGNA for the opportunity
to serve this great organization. It has been a busy and exciting year. We have been
involved in multiple activities including Relay for Life, Crohns and Colitis Walks, Save
our Parents activities at ASU and U of A, a booth at the Womans Expo, and completing
the year with our involvement in planning and participating in the Undy 5000. Linda Dupree MSN, RN, CGRN |

Report of Leadership Conference 2009 |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
On
October 2 and 3rd, I represented ASGNA at the National Regional Leadership Conference in
Chicago. This was a 2-1/2 day conference that was packed with a lot of information and
networking. There are 63 SGNA regions, yet only 38 regions were represented by the 50
attendees. As with all other educational events, the number of attendees has decreased due
to the monetary issues. Activities included reviewing SGNAs organizational
performance goals, communications skills, budgeting at the local and national level, board
member succession tactics, vendor sponsorship changes, scholarship and educational
opportunities, CEU applications, House of Delegates procedures and resolution writing for
bylaw changes. Other topics included mentorship of new members and the continued need to
engage membership in volunteering on the national and local levels. |

2009 Community Service |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Colon Cancer Alliance sponsored the Undy 5000 on November 21. The intent of the walk/run event was to increase public awareness for the need of colon cancer screening. 836 people registered for the event, held in downtown Phoenix. $100,000 was raised during the event. The 5K winner ran the race in17.22 min. Good Job!! Other activities this past year included the Crohns and Colitis Walk at the University of Phoenix Stadium in April 09, the Women Expo in April 09, Relay for Life in April 09 and Save Our Parents at the ASU and U of A campuses. Come join us in 2010 as we continue to demonstrate our concern and support of our communities to in prevention of cancer. Sue Kendrick RN, CGRN |

THANK YOU VENDERS !!!!!!! |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
When your Vendors Representative visits your facility, give him/her a big "Thank You" on behalf of ASGNA. Without their generous support, throughout the year, the dinner meetings and the Fall conference could not happen. Special thanks to Byrne Medical, Boston Scientific, Olympus and Cook Medical for providing equipment, dinner and speakers for our education meetings. In 2009 over $12,000, was provided by our vendors for our education meetings. |

In 2009, Arizona SGNA offered 11 Contact Hours, through education opportunities in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Glendale and Tucson. The Contact Hours were free to members. This was the first year we have required a fee for non-members to attend. Our Educations co-chairs, Patty and Cathy, did a wonderful job of providing above and beyond the requirement of 6 Contact Hours per year. With economic times as they are, free Contact Hours are a big advantage. This next year, ASGNA will continue to provide quality education to our members. Any suggestions for education topic are welcome. Please contact any Board member and we will be glad to pass the information to our Education Chairs. |

| FAQ for ABCGN:
COMMITTED TO EXCELLENCE * PASSIONATE ABOUT CARE 1. How
can I get a scholarship to take the exam or recertify? 2. When will we have all Computer Based Testing (CBT)? 3. Can I recertify on line? 4. How do I get GI specific contact hours for my hospital programs
or vendor programs? This is a new column and we would appreciate your feedback and
questions. Georgette Knoebel, BSN, RN, CGRN ABCGN Board of Directors. |
