President's Message

Hello to all ASGNA Members.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for this amazing privilege and opportunity to represent you and our Region as the current ASGNA President.  I am pleased to be working with the other dedicated board members to carry on our purpose of providing educational programs and to unite people engaged in the field of Gastroenterology and/or Endoscopy. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Samuel Moore, MSN, RN, for his time as President and his dedication to the Board over the past few years.

I hope that you are enjoying the new website. The Board felt that is was time to update the format and content for our members. Please take a moment and survey all the information available. Also we would like to invite you to send photos that can be attached. The photos can be of educational events that you have attended or of you and your colleagues from your work unit.

We are off to a great start for the 2018 year. The March educational event was very successful. The feedback on the presentation from Dr. Samadder was very positive. Thank you to Honor Health-Shea, Cook Medical and those of you that attended for your support in making the event a success. We are currently planning our Fall Educational offering, Saturday, October 20, 2018. We look forward to seeing you there. More information will be available once speakers and topics have been confirmed.  SGNA is no longer an accrediting body for contact hours. SGNA evaluated the use of the Approver Unit and decided to reassign those resources to better meet all member needs. We will be submitting content to the Georgia State Board of Nursing for ANCC approval and to ABCGN for GI specific contact credit.

Over the past two years membership has declined and educational attendance has been decreasing as well. We have heard from members that not all hospitals and facilities are supporting outside educational opportunities. We are not alone; this is a common theme occurring in other Regions throughout the United States. In an effort to keep costs from increasing, we will be using a new venue, Cancer Treatment Center Arizona.

Please encourage your fellow teammates to join SGNA or renew their membership. There are so many benefits of membership. You have the opportunity to network with other members from across the country, to continue your education and learning within the specialty of Gastroenterology and to contribute to the specialty. All members are encouraged and invited to attend ASGNA Board meetings. The Board meets the third Wednesday of each month in the Mayo Clinic Hospital Cafeteria from 6:00PM-7:00PM.

I look forward to a successful year!
